Actually, Easern Christendom has its own version of this type of practice. We call it "theosis". Basically "becoming by grace by what God is by nature." - St. Athanasius of Alexandria. Although, we lack the desire to market it as "self-help" or to advertise the practice at all, really. This is a lifelong journey which we try to achieve. However, in order to reach it, we must partake in communal worship (Sacraments). Of course, this is just a simple explanation. Anyone can Google it to learn more shoud they so desire.
