Dude, Florida...really? We left that uber-right wing swamp hole for Ukraine and would rather be here in Kyiv under threat of Russian attacks than there. Anyway, I'm from Jersey so had to start out with sarcasm. I sit here in Kyiv with Joseph Frank's (Princeton) seminal work on Dostoevsky and never completed reading it. Of course, it sits right next to my favorite or maybe former favorite book of all time The Brothers Karamazov. Note from the Underground changed my whole life back the the day and I even wrote a caricature of it called Notes from a Reluctant Alpha Male. Will i go back to them? Probably not for a while. Oh, I should say that I have no Slavic blood in my veins but my wife does. She despised Florida and that's why we came here to be closer to her parents in Belarus ( guess that's not happening now, huh?). Yes, after exploring the depth of old Fyodor, I see the constructs of Russian exceptionalism and imperialism. But, well, that's how far back the propaganda machine goes. Actually it even predates that with Moscow being the Third Rome and all. Anyway, Arestovytch said something funny last week. Ukraine will reject and ban Russian literature and culture and be welcomed into the EU. Then, Ukraine will open the door and who will be waiting for us?...Dostoevsky. So, maybe take a listen to him some time. His way of thinking may not prevail here but he does not think that Russian culture should be erased and he works for Yermak. So, really, since you are now in America, stop whining and take the good things from Russian culture and hold onto them. There won't be much left after the war is over.
