Frankly, my take on it is that you kinda have to immerse yourself in Ukraine to begin to understand and then appreciate it. There's nothing quite else like it in my experience of 59 years of life. Another American who has stayed throughout the invasion and is still here described Ukraine as this place of "wild freedom". That's what makes it messy and great at the same time.
