All Hail the Writers in Ukraine

Today, I read someone’s ode to her Medium Family. Her post dredged up something I have been pondering for some time now. You can complain about the platform, algorithms, whine, whine, whine, moan, moan, moan, blah, blah, blah all you want. So you know, when we see people whining about their problems outside the war zone, it’s really difficult not to roll our eyes. Yes, we have empathy but some of the stuff you whine about is just so trivial and pathetic. I’ll not pile on the guilt and give comparisons about our life in a war versus your life outside a war. That wouldn’t be fair but well, had to get that off my chest before digging into the meat and bones of this particular essay.

My life in the war has been greatly enriched by Medium, that I can say with conviction. I was never in it for the money but for the ability to create art and have someone see it. What’s the point of art if it is stashed away somewhere? Yes, I have a lot of material that I do not publish here or anywhere. Some of it only goes to loved ones or other Warrior Writers. It’s just too personal to share. Posthumous publishing of some material will perhaps leave lessons long after this war is over, and I am dust in the ground.
