A Departure

First, this is not a Suicide Note, it is a farewell.

Medium has been incredibly good to me on many levels. I am sincerely grateful for that. Some friendships made here are now out here in the war zone as true, live relationships. People I have broke bread with. Others are still online or various messenger apps but they are deeper. My wife, who is my most honest critic, tells me my writing has improved exponentially.

Thank you, Medium.

So why am I leaving? First, I don’t write clickbait type material and online interaction with readers distracts me from the actual work of writing. I am not a salesman, I am an artist, a writer. Anything that keeps one from their creativity must be tossed aside. Damn the torpedos…full speed ahead.

Wait, that’s not enough? Well, I am serializing our book “Accidental Ukrainians” written by my wife (Natasha Sennett), Tristan Ruark and Andrii Getun on Substack. Maybe it will get traction, maybe it won’t. I am too old to run after Literary Agents and Publishers.

Yes, there’s more. The excitement of writing comes for me personally in the form of a book. That long form project that you can just dig into and eventually emerge when it is finished. The process brings me peace and living in war, well, you seek peace. There are those…
