Right now in my flat in Kyiv, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, Turganev all sit lonely upon the shelf because I just can't read any of the Russian writers while being under Russian guns. In fact, reading fiction during a war is very difficult because life has become so real for us. However, now that I know how many Ukrainian writers were suppressed over the ages, I have managed to read "Zakhar Berkut" by Ivan Franko as it truly catches the spirit of our Ukrainians. Presently, working through "Shore of Love" by Oles Honchar who used to live in my neighborhood in Kyiv. There are many works by Ukrainian authors free online through the University of Toronto. Since you have quite a few subscribers (I hate the word "Follower" because what are we, like, Jesus or something?) please let them know if you think it worthy. Peace. BTW, I have never been able to get through Hemingway with the exception of "The Old Man and the Sea". Thank you.
