Russian Death for a Refrigerator
A Poem from Russia’s War on Ukraine
Cold air blows across windowpanes
Night Shaheds drop from skies
Feeling of snow teases
Air raids screech, waking us
Sleepless night, scattered dreams
Work calls, back to living
Dead enemy’s soldiers’ families get a new refrigerator
My death so you can keep your beer cold, Papa
That’s why I died in the trench, Mama
So that you could have a new appliance
My body will rot, and Christ will come
But not for me
Brother, sister, son, daughter, wife
Run to Him
There is no hope for us
Anywhere else
