This path, we all must travel
Some will find it smooth, an easy walk
Others will have many bumps and twists
Yours may be filled with obstacles
Lo, some will never have to walk it
Laid to rest long before they get there

Gone are so many things that once were
Fare thee well, lost opportunities
Goodbye, youth of grand stupidity
See ya, maddening desire of loins
Godspeed, all those dreams unfulfilled
Letting go of chains and setting oneself free

Hello, sweet wisdom of lessons learned
Welcome, calm, patience and humility
Come in, tide of life that ebbs ever more slowly
Greetings, unburdened traveler of other’s opinions
Nice to see you, life’s tender, enveloping autumn
