Yes, Benjamin, I sit here after over a full year in the War on Ukraine as a non-combatant thinking that your essays resonates with me about the future. Having went to sign up for Ukraine Territorial Defense on the 3rd day of war and being told they were out of weapons and might not get more for another two weeks, I resolved it was God's will not to enter the fray directly but to stay. We endured the Battle of Kyiv when almost all foreigners left while fighting raged only a few kilometer away. My Parris Island training kicked in and we utilized tactical awareness to survive ever since. Now, after reading your piece that all I seem to know even as a civilian is war. Everything else just kinda falls out from under you and you do what you have to to get through. The problem is where will you be when you do get through? "I got God my side, and I'm just trying to survive. What if what you do to survive kills the things you love...It'll take your God-filled soul and fill it with devils and dust." - Bruce Springsteen. Be All You Can Be and Semper Fidelis, brother. We'll all make it in the end.
